Favorite of PBS

This is a contemporary artwork named "Born" made by Kiki Smith in 2002. I like this artwork because it seems like the artist wants to tell us a story about it. The impression for me is about the relationship between animals and human beings. I think maybe the artist is talking about we should protect our environment and animals. The woman is born of a deer, and her feet are still connecting to the deer. It looks ridiculous, but if we think a little deeper, we may get an idea about how important animal to us. We are living in the same planet, and they are our friends. However, the artist said that the artwork just came up into her head and she really didn’t know what it was. Anyway, that’s just the saying from the artist. When we are looking at an artwork, the stories come up by ourselves are the most important. Whatever meaning the artist created for it, this piece of artwork made me think.

Refletion of MCA

As what I wrote about in the diary 5, the trip of the Museum of Contemporary Art was so great. Besides the installation made by Sarah Sze, the artworks from Jenny Holzer are also impressing. Her talent of art makes her artworks so fantastic. The words showed on the screen and the texture make people think deeper and deeper and try to find out the original meanings. She used contemporary technique and make ordinary things become creative. The other artworks that we saw in the museum were made of what we often saw in dairy life, but only the artists have those ideas to create the visual artworks.

diary 5

Today we went to the Museum of Contemporary Art. It was a great field trip because I have seen so many artworks there. I like the art work made by Sarah Sze. It is a huge installation. It consis of many lines and looks like a net. Lights comes from the corner, that should be the radioactive source of the the artwork. Also, it looks like the explosion of the universe many years ago. Many things like buildings and creatures are flying to space.

diary 4

Today I thought of artworks and I found that there was a piece called body art. It was amazing not only because there were beautiful paintings painted on human bodies, but also the paintings were mixed into the surface of the model and looked comfortable. In addition, the body painters more concern onto colors. Most of the time, the paintings are colorful and bright. The vivid landscape on the body is popular nowadays.

diary 3

Today I surfed on line, I saw a piece of artwork that really amazing. It looks like consised of many building blocks. A golden man is tearing his chest apart, and many other building blocks are pouring out of his stomach. It is a little bit disgusting and abstract. However, it is quite an art that make me think about it.

Sculpture Park

This Friday we went to the International Sculpture Park in Schaumburg. We saw many sculptures there. I especially like the Vinland. It looks like the Stonehenge that we can see in the textbook. It consists of eighteen pieces of stones. The scultor Jarle Rosseland is a Norwegian artist, Vinland comemorates the discovery of the Americas.

Chicago Cultural Center

This Wednesday we went to the Chicago Cultural Center. I was mesmerized by its European style decoration. The Tiffany glass domes in the hall are especially great. The decoration on the ceiling looked like the painting in church, so it made me feel peaceful when I raised my head to appreciate. There was a piano in the hall, and many chairs there made it like a small concert hall. I think someday I will go there again, enjoy music, and a cup of coffee.

Modernist Artwork

In this painting, we can see so many geomatric shapes such as triangle, square and circle. The artist used color typically. The outer shapes cover parts of the inner shapes, so it looks cubic. Red is the outest color and become an emphasis. The surface of the painting is rough because it seems like being carved. The shapes look like being painted randomly, but if we look at it carefully, we may see the pattern of a part of sitting room. An sofa consists of the shapes in the middle. The shapes by the side can be imagined as the supporting pillars. What's more, most of the colors are equally devided by the vertical and horizontal lines, so it looks balance.

Art Tour

Once opened the website of Art Tour, I found that I had seen most of those art works before. However, I didn’t appear in the pictures because I only wanted to picture landscape without people. Thus, I had to take this tour again and show up in front of the camera. It took me about three hours on this trip because I just walked to the destinations. I also pictured other statues that locate along this route. Due to the tour, I refreshed my memories and rediscovered those arts.

Shadow

That day, I walked on the street, having a camera in my hand. All of you may know what I was doing. I was taking pictures, and trying to find interesting shadows. When I went by a tall building, I found that I had two shadows. Why? I looked around then I figured out the answer. There was a building full of glasses not far away. Because of the reflection of the glasses, I got the other shadow. Don’t understand? Open your physics book!

Home

This is one of my drawings, I named it "Home". I decide to post it because of its meaning and the importance of home to us. What attracts us first should be the bird's nest. There're three little birds in the nest. They are all open their mouths toward to the same direction. We can see a bird flying to the nest. It is coming back to feed its children. The house on the right is the second home in the picture. The smoke tells us that people in the house are cooking. The straightness of the smoke and the clouds depict peace of home.
